A seasoned lottery player in Maryland was pleasantly surprised by a six-figure prize but then nearly forgot to cash her ticket.
The fortunate woman, who chose the nickname "Macy", recently collected one of the top prizes from the Maryland Lottery's Ravens X10 scratch-off ticket for a $200,000 payout.
The Anne Arundel County resident recently visited the lottery headquarters to claim her big win.
The woman, whose identity will likely forever remain a mystery, admitted that she is a frequent lottery player and enjoys scratch-off games.
Rather than having a favorite game, the woman admitted that she plays whenever she is "feeling lucky" and picks different tickets.
Visiting the Maryland Lottery headquarters, the woman collected the life-changing $200,000 top prize from the Ravens X10 scratch-off game.
Speaking to an official with the Lottery, the woman said: "This money is a blessing. I hope to bless others—mostly my family—and I’ll donate some to church or charity. I’ll also save a good amount, but I really hope to do good with it."
Macy bought her winning ticket at High's at 1624 Annapolis Road in Odenton. The retailer that sold the winning ticket will benefit from a $1,000 bonus.
While the winner realized she had won the top prize back in November, she totally forgot to cash in the big win.
The fortunate woman recalled buying the ticket on a day she had a "terrible headache."
"I went to the store to get some medicine and stopped for gas on the way home. While I was there, I picked up a ticket," she said.
The Anne Arundel County resident then scanned the ticket and she thought that there was an issue with the machine.
As the woman was feeling unwell, she went back home and decided to scan the ticket again with the Maryland Lottery's app.
Confetti appeared on the screen of the lucky woman and the prize of $200,000 was revealed. "I was shocked," the winner recalled.
While the lucky lottery player signed the ticket and put it away for safekeeping, she didn't cash it in.
Still, the woman told her family that she had "good news," but several months later, when one relative asked her about that news, she remembered she hadn't cashed in her ticket.
Immediately after that, the woman contacted the Maryland Lottery to claim the big win.
After the recent $200,000 top prize win, now, three such prizes remain in play from Ravens X10.
Each ticket for the popular game costs $10 and grants players a chance to win a prize between $10 and $200,000.
The odds of winning any prize from the scratch-off game are 1 in 3.28.
