Anyone who suffers from coulrophobia may want to sit this game out. Klowns takes the idea of a horror movie clown and gives it the slot treatment. The game here is a funhouse horror with two fully animated clowns watching your every move as you play.

On the reels, warped balloons float up into place with crossed-out eyes drawn onto them and eerie slogans scrawled in what might be blood.

This game isn’t for the faint of heart, but if you like a grungy scare, this slot might be for you.

Graphics, Sounds and Animations

Graphics are a definite selling point of Klowns. The artwork has a hyper-real feel that gives the surreal setting a sense of the uncanny. More overtly horrifying are the cracked makeup and slavering jaws of the clowns.

The soundtrack enhances the creepy tone of the visuals with a carnival tune slowed down and played in jagged off-key notes.

Overall, this slot oozes atmosphere, though whether it's an atmosphere you will want to breathe depends on your stomach for horror tropes.

Gameplay

Klowns has an ultra-simple setup. The play area is a grid that is six symbols wide and five symbols deep. Each spin of the symbols (represented by balloons that float up from the bottom) gives the player a chance to win by hitting eight or more matching symbols anywhere on the reels.

There is a cascade system that works like most cascade systems except that the symbols float up to replace the removed, winning symbols instead of dropping down from above.

A range of features can be triggered during the base game. These include multipliers, triggered by a collection meter; the removal of a low-value symbol, triggered by the Needle Box symbol; and a free spin bonus. These all keep the base gameplay varied and add an interesting ebb and flow to the game’s pacing.

The maximum win on any given round is capped at 10,000x of the player’s bet.

Wilds, Bonuses and Free Spins

There are no Wild symbols in Klowns. However, if the player lands three or more Free Spin symbols on a single spin, the player receives 10 free spins.

During the Free Spin bonus, the reels have additional multiplier symbols added to the reels, a new symbol that doubles all multipliers whenever it lands, and special Needle Boxes that remove all of the low-paying symbols from the reels in one go.
